John Clarke Chapter Celebrates 100th Anniversary

Over a year ago members of our chapter began planning ways to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the founding of our chapter. To promote and display patriotism in the community, chapter members voted to purchase and install a flagpole at city hall. Christened the “Flagpole Project,” members raised funds through participation at the Friendship Festival and selling homemade desserts at the Chili Cook-off, both annual events in the community.

Additionally, members solicited funds from local businesses and community organizations. The American Legion Post #332 in Social Circle graciously donated a 20-foot flagpole to the effort. Through the generous financial support of the community as well as the tireless work of chapter members, the project came to fruition in 2017.

Following the groundbreaking ceremony for the flagpole (see March 27th post), chapter members hosted a 100th anniversary reception. Our State Regent Joyce Ball Patton attended the reception as well as other DAR Daughters from around the state. State Representative Bruce Williamson and Social Circle Mayor Hal Dally attended and both read proclamations recognizing our 100th birthday.
