Although women have gained equal access to education with men in many parts of the world, in many people's subconscious, women still do not belong to science fields. While participating in the Asia Region Space Settlement Design Competition (ARSSDC) a few days ago, I realized that most participants of the competition were boys, and girls were even less represented in leadership positions.
I was determined to run for the president of the Human Factors Department at first, but no one in our team believed that I'd be selected, since "more capable" boys were running for election too. Although I did not have confidence in myself initially, after being elected as the Head of Human Factors Department (no one anticipated it!), I found that I was fully capable of leading a team and achieving our goals through cooperation.
Thus, never let public beliefs and opinions shake your decisions. Remember to enjoy your opportunities in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and fulfill your potential following your own will.
